Polina Levontin
Writer. Joined LPP in 2018.
I am a scientist. Most of my research projects have been interdisciplinary, requiring a sufficient understanding of various fields in order to collaborate with ecologists, statisticians, economists, anthropologists and graphic designers. The main theme of my research has been uncertainty in scientific advice. The subject of uncertainty bridges mathematics and storytelling - people rely not just on numbers but on narratives to react to risks. Studying at the Center for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry (CMII, UCL) I focused on how science and risk are represented in popular culture, exploring narratives of environmental disasters, genetic engineering and bio-terror. I am a co-editor of Vector - the critical journal of the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA).
